It is the mother church of the Diocese of Orange and is the seat of its bishop, currently Kevin Vann. Holy Family Parish predates the establishment of the Diocese of Orange and has served as the diocesan cathedral since the diocese's establishment in 1976. It is currently scheduled to be replaced as cathedral by Christ Cathedral, the former Crystal Cathedral, in 2016. ==History== Holy Family Parish was established in October 1921, when Orange was part of what was then known as the Diocese of Monterey-Los Angeles. Its current site was purchased in 1949 and the current church building was completed in April 1958 and dedicated in January 1961.
